A lovely weekend in York

Dad came up last weekend and we went out for a long cycle in and out of York. Here are some of the things we saw.

Later on I went out for a drink with my new mate and work colleague. Started off at a few bars and pubs and ended up at a house night (my first in York!) called Freakin, which has apparently been running for 15 years! There was a producer I like playing a set there, his name is Tim Wright and he happens to be from York.

New in York

After a brief stint in London at my best friends Drew's place, I'm now in York with a new job, a new flat, and everything is going great!

I got my 1st for my degree... all that hard work really paid off. I'm pretty proud of myself.

My new job is at ioko (with a little 'i' - www.ioko.com) where I am a Graduate Trainee leading to the role of Junior Developer. I'll mostly be writing web applications using MS technologies.

The place is very friendly and laid back, although people here do know their stuff and work hard. The dress code is, in my manager's own words, 'wear what you like'. Of course, I didn't know this before I arrived, and got my hair cut for the interview. I did miss it for a while, as I usually do, but a lot of people say it looks better now. Thing is, now I look smart, none of my casual clothes really suit me, so I'm dressing smart for work anyway.

I'm living in an actor's flat - he is now mostly in London for the panto season - and I live with one flatmate and one cat. I even have a 4 poster bed, as you can see. Lush!

I'm a free man!!!

Today I finished my dissertation.

And I finished my degree!

And I've been out boozing, and now I'm pretty shattered. But I'm relieved.

Mum and Dad are coming up north to see my brother and me tomorrow night, and we're going out for dinner, "to celebrate your achievement". Awwwww... :)

I did it!

Disco Patrick wants YOU...

...to try out his dissertation website.

It's at www.TagMyTrip.com, and it could help you plan your next trip.

Please take 10 minutes to visit the site, create an account, use the features and fill out the user survey (link is on the front page). It will help me with my report.

5 months???...

Since my last post??? That's terrible.

Anyway, here's the 'shizzle' - semester 2 came and went, I met all my deadlines and did pretty good on the whole. I got my hair cut in time for a new job at Holland and Barrett, where I scored 100% on customer service in the mystery shop. My brother got married - I was an usher, and did him proud by getting drunk at the reception and dancing like a tit at the party. I've just moved house up here in Salford to a lovely new place, almost next-door to the university. I'm living with three girls, one of whom I used to work with at H&B.

Now I'm writing my dissertation - a study into collaborative tagging. It's dead interesting. It's all to do with the internet and this "Web 2.0" thing that people are hyping about at the moment. My favourite collborative tagging website is Last FM (www.last.fm) - if you haven't got a clue what I'm talking about then visit the link, and if you're interested then get in touch and we can talk geek stuff with each other!

Finally, I've now migrated from MySpace to FaceBook, so 'add me!' when you get a minute.

"Bride or groom?"

More pictures of the wedding.

Wikipedia is great...

I love Wikipedia. I've only started using it lots since I've back at uni. Its great in many ways, firstly the concept - a free encyclopedia, made for the world by the world, a place where we can bring all the knowledge of the world together in one place. Anyone can create or edit an article, hopefully resulting in accurate and unbiased information.

Secondly, you can find articles on almost anything. It can get silly. I mean, theres useful information for my course, then there's trivia like 'who made cameo appearances in the 7th episode of the second season of that tv show'. The other day I even discovered who the song 'My Sharona' is based on, and what she's doing now.

I'm down in London for a week, and things are off to a good start :) Soon after I arrived in the city I called my mate Drew and we went for a drink in Camden town. My sister Kat and our mate Evlin were also there and we all went to 80's night at the Underworld - or '60's to 90's night' as it is now known. We had a great time! I hadn't been out like that for so long. We got pissed, danced to the likes of MC Hammer, got chatted up by pretty girls, ate hotdogs from dodgy hotdog stands... great stuff. Best of all, Drew was there, being his usual charismatic self.

London's alright sometimes.
